Hello hello! (ˊᗜˋ)/

Drawing properly has always been a goal I’ve wanted to tackle for most of my life but could never fully commit to. For many years, my art skills can be summed up by what I needed to draw that day and how much time I had to draw it.

My favorite type of art is actually scenery-based. As in, no people or only one person (preferably half a person or just a head). Mostly because I can’t draw people, but also because I can’t draw their clothes. I mean, is it considered artistic indecency if you draw naked people all the time? 🤔

For me, I think scenery is a good way to practice art. It helps with colors, shapes, and perspectives. It’s also good at making bizarre unnatural stuff look natural. Like, if I wanted to draw a simple image of a beach with sand and water (basically what a beach is), I could just draw a curvy line across the canvas, paint one side blue, paint the other side sandy (yellow? brown?), draw some small dots for the sand effect, and done!

“This beach is really terrible. It’s not getting any better than this.”

Then I can draw myself (Turnip) in the background since I 100% exist and am totally not a fictional character.

“Unnatural turnip monster being natural.”

With people, it becomes a bit more complex. I have to draw movements, outfits, and limbs. I struggle with all three of those points even with stick figures. Technically, I’m very good at drawing people when you take out the whole person.

“What are body shapes?”

So, in addition to other Turnip Talks posts, one of my other goals for this blog is to hold myself accountable to draw consistently (my occasional nonsense) and to document my journey and progress with art.
